St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service - THIS Saturday, September 15

Looking for a volunteer opportunity this coming weekend? The St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service is coming up this Saturday, September 15 ! Join fellow English graduate student and graduate assistant Nick Manai, who is organizing a service group at the Academy at Palumbo in South Philly. Last year, our group helped paint, clean, and reorganize some classrooms and administrative offices. Jobs this year will likely continue cleaning, painting, and rearranging! The high school is located at 12th and Catherine Streets (just below South Street) and will take place from approximately 9:30AM-2PM (if you need to arrive early or leave late, that is no problem at all). If you plan to bring significant others or family members, that's fine too, just please let Nick know ahead of time. The official deadline for registration for the event via the Villanova website has already passed, but that does NOT mean it's too late to sign up! See Nick's email address below, and contact h...

English Department Adventures, Day of Service Edition

This past Saturday, faculty and grad students from the department traveled to The Academy @ Palumbo in South Philly for the St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service. We spent the day doing various improvement projects across the school, including painting columns in the cafeteria and guidance counselor offices. BIG shoutout to our group coordinator, Nick Manai, who did a phenomenal job getting us organized, answering questions, tracking down more paintbrushes, successfully finding band aids, etc. Dr. Yumi "Paint Tape Pro" Lee in action Angeline and Lia! Our group was part of the 5,000 other Villanovans who volunteered their time to various service projects at more than 100 sites across Greater Philadelphia. Thanks to everyone who came!

St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service

One of our first-year students, Nick Manai, is facilitating the Day of Service at the Academy @ Palumbo in South Philadelphia on Saturday, September, 23rd. See Nick's message below! Palumbo is in the School District of Philadelphia and Villanova has partnered with them to promote college awareness and establish a relationship between our university and a high school in Philadelphia. On the 23rd we will be repainting different rooms in the building, decorating and cleaning a new fitness center for the students, adding a hanging garden to Palumbo's already impressive rooftop, and many other important projects. I know that we are talking about a Saturday here, but Palumbo is always grateful for adult volunteers  who can attend and work with the students on these projects. In addition to the good works, good karma and positive vibes you will receive, I live a few blocks south of the school, so if we get a group of volunteers that day I can invite everyone back to my house for a...
